In this study, we examined technology addiction and social connectedness levels of psychiatric patients who admitted to clinics in different geographical regions of Turkey. A total of people with a diagnosis of psychiatric illness who applied to psychiatry clinics in İstanbul, Elaziğ, Malatya, Yozgat, Adıyaman, and Bingöl provinces were included. Studies have shown that strong social connectedness reduces suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, depression, substance abuse, and offenses [ 1516 ]. Social media and internet use may have positive effects on establishing and maintaining social connectedness [ 17 ]. While there are studies reporting that social media use and technology increase social connectedness and strengthen friendship, there are also studies reporting that problematic internet use disrupts social relations and decreases social connectedness [ 1819 ]. In our literature review, we could not find any studies that examined technology addiction and social connectedness levels of psychiatric patients together. We think that the findings of this study may be useful in the recognition and treatment processes of psychiatric patients. This study was conducted in accordance with the ethical standards set out in the Declaration of Helsinki, revision. This cross-sectional study was conducted in 6 provinces of Turkey between January 1, and June 30, A total of people participated in the study.
